The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested suspects linked to the murders of African National Congress (ANC) councillor Thabang Masemola and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member Aaron Makola.
Three people were arrested over the weekend in connection with Makola’s murder.

The Gauteng PKTT found Makola’s body in Delmas on 30 July after he was reported missing, while an alleged hitman and a woman believed to have helped plan Masemola’s killing were arrested recently.
The pair arrested in connection with the murder of Masemola is due back in the Mamelodi Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where prosecutors will link the alleged triggerman, Vusimuzi Champ Gebuza, to two additional cases of murder and attempted murder dating back to 2023 and 2024.
The trio linked to Makola’s murder are expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrates Court on Wednesday on charges of murder, kidnapping and robbery.
Police said Makola disappeared in Bronkhorstspruit on 10 July and his abandoned vehicle was found a day later.
He was shot before his body was dumped in the bush.
“We commend the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team for their tireless efforts and assure the families of the victims, as well as the people of Gauteng, that we remain resolute in our fight against violent crime and politically motivated killings,” said police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
Police said investigations into both killings are continuing.
