Parliament, Monday, 3 August 2026 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms Khusela Sangoni Diko, has welcomed the resolution of the salary payment challenges affecting journalists and other employees at the Daily Dispatch and The Herald.
Ms Diko said the payment of outstanding salaries brings much-needed relief to affected employees and their families and reflects the importance of honouring commitments made to workers.
“We welcome the resolution of this matter and the fulfilment of the undertaking to settle outstanding salaries. Journalists perform an essential public service, and it is imperative that they are remunerated fairly and on time for the vital work they do in strengthening our democracy,” said Ms Diko.
She expressed the hope that the latest developments would contribute to stability at the newspapers and urged all parties to work towards ensuring the long-term sustainability of the publications and the protection of jobs.
