Gauteng ABC Motsepe League split sets up thrilling new season – Cosmos avoids local rivals   | Sedibeng Ster

SEDIBENG.- The Gauteng ABC Motsepe League 2026/2027 season has been split into Stream A and Stream B, meaning Jomo Cosmos will avoid newly promoted sides Ben 10 FC and Boipatong FC.

Both Ben 10 FC and Boipatong FC, who represent the Vaal Triangle, have been placed together in Stream A.

In contrast, fellow regional sides Jomo Cosmos and Young Pirates FC will compete in Stream B.

Stream B has already been described as a “stream of death” due to the high quality of its teams.

Alongside Jomo Cosmos and Young Pirates FC, the division features Orlando Pirates FC, Wits University, TUT, Tembisa Mabopane JM, Leruma United, Mike I Stars FC, Dube Continental FC, Tembisa Destroyers FC, Spartans FC, and Doornkop FC.

The majority of these clubs are already familiar with one another after competing in the same league last season.

Meanwhile, league newcomers Ben 10 FC and Boipatong FC face a tough task in Stream A. They will go up against La Masia, Dinoko, University of Johannesburg, Free Agents FC, RRR Rams, Tshwane South College, Tembisa Hollywood Thunder, SSU M017JBM FC, and fellow newcomers Lesco FC.

Facing these opponents will not be easy for the two local teams, as La Masia FC, Free Agents FC, and Dinoko FC were all challenging for the league title during the 2025/2026 season.

Local football supporters could have been spoilt for choice with exciting local derbies had all the regional teams ended up in the same group. Unfortunately, Young Pirates FC and Jomo Cosmos were placed in the opposite stream.

Questions also remain regarding where the new teams will play their home matches when the season starts.

Sedibeng Ster Sport understands that Boipatong FC plans to use Boipatong Stadium, which is currently closed for construction in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, Ben 10 FC is expected to return to George Thabe Stadium, though official confirmation is still pending.
