Today’s weather: Cold, dry conditions grip most provinces while light rain targets Western Cape

South Africans can expect another largely dry and cool winter’s day on Wednesday, with no severe weather warnings issued by the South African Weather Service.

Most provinces, including Gauteng, the North West, Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, will experience fine and cool conditions, although morning frost is expected in parts of the Free State and Mpumalanga Highveld, while fog patches may develop in some inland areas during the early hours.

The only notable rainfall is forecast for the southern parts of the Western Cape, where cloudy conditions, morning fog and isolated showers or light rain are expected. Rain chances remain low at around 30%, with isolated showers likely along parts of the southern coastline.

Similar 30% rain chances are expected to develop along sections of the south-western and southern coastal areas of the Eastern Cape later in the evening.

KwaZulu-Natal is expected to remain fine and cool to warm throughout the day, becoming partly cloudy in the south-eastern areas by evening. The Eastern Cape will also enjoy mostly fine weather, although coastal cloud cover is expected to increase later in the day.

Meanwhile, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over parts of the Eastern Cape, including the Inxuba Yethemba, Enoch Mgijima and Intsika Yethu local municipalities, where residents are urged to exercise caution with open flames and activities that could spark veld fires.

UV levels will be moderate in Gauteng and very high in both the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, prompting residents to take appropriate sun protection measures when spending extended periods outdoors.

Overall, Wednesday will be dominated by cool, stable winter weather across most of the country, with only isolated light rainfall expected along parts of the southern coast.
