Eastern Cape police vow to continue crackdown on illegal immigration

At the same time, planned marches across the province remained largely peaceful, with a heavy police presence deployed to maintain law and order.

Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata said police have also facilitated the voluntary repatriation of Malawian nationals from Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay in recent days.

He said buses carrying Zimbabwean nationals who voluntarily chose to return home have also departed from kuGompo under police escort.

“We are escorting them at least out of the danger, knowing that they may also be targeted. Hence, you have not seen any incidents around their departure from the province. We escort them and hand over to the next province.”

Police said they will intensify operations targeting illegal immigration while continuing to maintain public order and ensure the safety of everyone in the province.
