Two people were killed on Saturday afternoon when a light aircraft crashed in Fochville, Gauteng.
The Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre activated its early warning network and immediately dispatched Emergency Medical Services, ER24, and Netcare911 to the reported location.
“Upon arrival, ER24 EMS personnel found that both occupants on board had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident,” ARCC said in a statement.
The accident scene has been formally handed over to the police and the South African Civil Aviation Authority for the official investigation.
ARCC extended its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the aviators involved in the tragic accident.
“We also wish to acknowledge the swift and professional response of the following services: SAPS Airwing, SAPS K9 Search and Rescue, SAPS Fochville, Gauteng EMS, ER24, Netcare911, Rocket HEMS, and SARZA,” the organisation said.
Details about where the flight departed from, its intended destination, and the cause of the crash remain unknown at this stage.
