An undocumented 22-year-old foreign national has been arrested in Vrygrond, Muizenberg, after police allegedly discovered expired and prescription medication being sold from a local shop.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), members attached to Operation Prosper were conducting patrols in the area on Thursday evening when they received information about the unauthorised sale of medication at a premises in Berg Street.
Police said officers proceeded to the shop and found various medicines displayed on shelves.
“Members were conducting patrols in the Vrygrond, Muizenberg area when they received information about the unauthorised sale of medication at a premises in Berg Street, Vrygrond,” SAPS said.
During the inspection, officers allegedly found that some of the medication had expired, with expiry dates dating back to 2025.
“It was also found that some of the medication had expired, with expiry dates dating back to 2025. An assortment of medication was confiscated and handed in at Muizenberg SAPS as exhibits,” police said.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect was allegedly in South Africa without legal documentation.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had no legal documentation to be in South Africa,” SAPS said.
The man was arrested and is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the alleged contravention of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, as well as immigration laws.
