Patron Spends R114,500 and Tips Waiter R11,450 at KZN Restaurant

A patron surprised Umhlanga residents on Monday morning, 8 July when he spent R114 500 on alcohol at Rockets restaurant.

The R114 500 receipt also shows that the customer tipped the waiter R11 450, which totaled the bill to R125 969. 

The shocking R125 969 bill shows that the patron settled his bill at 4am on Monday morning at Rockets Club in Umhlanga Rocks. The bill was shared by entertainment blogger Musa Khawula on X.

So how does a bill at a restaurant even get to R125 969? Well, let’s break down what was ordered:

ALCOHOL USAGE IN SOUTH AFRICA

CapeTalk revealed in October 2022 that South Africa is ranked third in the world for alcohol consumption. 

The publication added at the time that the Liquor Amendment Bill was going back into Parliament to figure out the potential benefits of reforming the drinking behaviors of South Africans.

Onesisa Mtwa, innovation director at DGMT told the publication: 

“We are presently third in the world in terms of alcohol consumption per capita. Considering that less than half of our population consumes alcohol, the part of the population that does drink heavily.”
