Municipal and Eskom teams are working to restore electricity to communities across the Eastern Cape affected by severe flooding.

The Sarah Baartman District, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Amathole District Municipality and Buffalo City Metro have been among the hardest hit by heavy rainfall over the past two days.

Several families have been evacuated from flood-affected areas and relocated to temporary shelters, where emergency relief is being provided.

Floodwaters also forced the closure of numerous roads and low-water bridges, creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of the province.

Eastern Cape government spokesperson Khusela Rantie said, “The provincial government is working closely with municipalities, disaster management centres, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to coordinate preparedness and response measures. Emergency services remain on high alert and are responding to incidents arising from the adverse weather conditions in affected areas.”
