Relentless heavy rain has triggered severe flooding across the Eastern Cape, leaving roads submerged and homes inundated.
Families have been evacuated from flood-hit areas and moved to temporary shelters, where emergency relief is being provided.
A Level 8 warning for disruptive rainfall remains in effect as torrential downpours continue to batter the Sarah Baartman District, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Amathole District Municipality and Buffalo City Metro.
Numerous roads and low-water bridges have been flooded and closed, creating dangerous travel conditions.

Eastern Cape government spokesperson Khusela Rantie has urged motorists to stay away from flooded routes.
“As the severe weather conditions continue, snowfall is expected in the Joe Gqabi District municipality later this evening. residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid travelling through snow-affected areas and exercise caution as conditions may deteriorate.”
Ranti said power outages have also been reported in some areas, with municipal and Eskom teams working to restore electricity where conditions allow.
“Emergency services remain on high alert and are responding to incidents arising from the adverse weather conditions in affected areas.”
