A cut-off low pressure system is forecast to sweep across the central and southern parts of South Africa on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, bringing cold, wet and windy conditions, with localised flooding possible across the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, reports Cape {town} Etc.
What Cape residents can expect
The slow-moving system is expected to hit the eastern parts of the Western Cape hardest, with the Garden Route, Overberg, Central Karoo and Little Karoo all in the firing line. Sustained heavy rainfall, strong winds and significantly colder temperatures are forecast, with snowfall possible over high-lying areas.
Tuesday, 2 June, offers a brief window of calmer conditions before the system moves in overnight. Cut-off lows are known to stall over affected areas for days, meaning conditions can persist well into the week.
‘Here we go again, better stock up, we’ll be stuck for a couple of days,’ wrote one Western Cape resident on social media this weekend, capturing the mood of many bracing for what promises to be a punishing mid-week spell.
