The KaBokweni Volleyball Club is a community-driven sports organisation dedicated to developing young talent through sport.
It was established in 2016 by Jabulani Nkosi, Jones Mbewe and head captain Given Mahlalela, with a vision to create opportunities for young athletes from the township and surrounding areas.
The teams are currently preparing for an upcoming tournament on June 20 at the University of Mpumalanga. According to Mahlalela, the club is a community-based initiative that strives to keep young people focused, motivated, and away from negative social influences such as substance abuse and crime.
“Our aim is to provide a safe, competitive and supportive environment where players can develop their volleyball skills, grow personally and represent KaBokweni with pride,” he said.

The club consists of 12 male and 12 female players who continue to train hard and participate in various local and national competitions. One of the club’s proudest moments came during its first year when the team participated in a national tournament hosted in Durban. Despite being new, the women’s managed to secure second place, while the men’s team achieved third place, marking an impressive start for the club and highlighting the talent within the community.

In 2019, they participated in the University Sports South Africa tournament in Bloemfontein where the women’s team finished in ninth place and the men’s team secured seventh place.
