Absent prosecutor in taxi tycoon Joe Sibanyoni case to face Mpumalanga DPP

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the prosecutor accused of contempt for failing to appear in court will meet with the Director of Public Prosecutions in Mpumalanga.

Mkhuseli Ntaba failed to pitch on Monday during bail proceedings in an extortion and money laundering case involving taxi bosses Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, Bafana Sindane and two others.

The matter was struck off the roll and the prosecutor was issued with a warrant of arrest.

Ntaba was found in contempt of court after failing to arrive for the formal bail application despite being ordered to return to court at 9am.

The chief magistrate, Tule-tu Tonjeni, subsequently issued a warrant of arrest for Ntaba, while the NPA later confirmed it had been unable to reach or locate him.

The developments triggered widespread speculation, with Eyewitness News also reliably learning of alleged threats against officials linked to the case.
