Residents in the North West province are being urged to remain alert following heavy rainfall that has led to overflowing dams and rivers, as well as flooded roads.
Police said that the hardest-hit areas are communities in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district near the Northern Cape border, however, no fatalities have been reported so far.
Residents and motorists are advised not to cross flooded roads, to avoid strong currents, and to exercise caution around bodies of water, where conditions can change rapidly and become dangerous.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Adele Myburgh said that officers have already responded to several weather-related incidents in the affected areas.
“Police drivers have been activated to separate incidents where motorists became trapped in their vehicles and individuals were swept into rivers due to strong currents.”
