Several communities, particularly in the Southern Cape, were isolated after roads and bridges were washed away.
Furthermore, uprooted trees and fallen rocks blocked access routes into towns, while electricity and communication lines were severely affected.
Provincial Disaster Management head Colin Deiner said significant progress has since been made in restoring essential services.
“Electricity restoration is ongoing with over 60% of affected areas reconnected, while work continues in the Cape Winelands and Theewaterskloof,” Deiner confirmed.
Deiner added that major national routes, including the N1 and N2, have now reopened and are operating close to normal.
