Pienaar musician aims to uplift youngsters in Mpumalanga | Mpumalanga News

A versatile musician, Mbongeni Khoza (26), is making magic with his mixture of amapiano and afro-tech house sounds. Khoza ventured into music in primary school as a member of the Mass Choir.

His first single, “Silale Kanjani”, was released in 2021 and featured Angel Nokuthula Themba and Henry Mabuza, popularly known as DJ Khanes. The song became the talk of the town with 1 000 views on YouTube.

He said his music career was influenced by his surroundings and local artists from Pienaar who are working hard to succeed in the local music industry. “I grew up around ABee Marandi, DJ Khanes and King Chartz. These guys have inspired me to start my music career. I have been in their presence while they record their music and they have helped to evoke my love for music,” he said.

Khoza emerged as an event organiser in 2021 when he hosted the Upcoming Artists of Mpumalanga Music event.

“I believe, as up-and-coming artists, we lack unity and consistency in our craft, and that makes it harder for us to blow up. This event aimed to bring us together to work and teach one another to be more creative so we can raise the Mpumalanga flag,” he said.

Khoza owns a record label called Lokasie Musiq, with seven vocalists and a producer currently signed under the label.

He hopes to uplift youngsters who wish to pursue music through a competition aimed at pupils from Bonginhlanhla and Ncakini high schools.

“It is an open-verse competition in which aspiring vocalists can compete to feature on the main song. Interested artists are required to enter online by creating a demo video of their verse and sharing it on YouTube and Facebook with the tag C’khiya RSA. Finalists will be selected based on the number of views and a public vote conducted through a link shared by my label,” Khoza said.
