Dunga flags serious concerns over Gauteng’s R9.3bn in accruals

Gauteng Finance MEC Nkululeko Dunga added his voice to concerns over the state of finances in the province.

Dunga said that despite a R179.2 billion budget for the current financial year, there were serious concerns about underspending and the increasing non-payment of suppliers.

He said key service delivery departments continued to underspend while accruals had risen to R9.3 billion, leaving service providers unpaid.

Briefing the media outside the Dube Hostel in Soweto, Dunga said assessing the current level of accruals is a priority to allow the province to implement necessary interventions.

“The scale and the recurrence of these findings reflect serious and systematic weaknesses in procurement management, contract administration, compliance monitoring and consequence management across the provincial administration.”
