In another seperate incident, one of the region’s most notorious criminal figures, Sifiso “Coach” Malwane, has been shot and killed during a botched house robbery in the Thengani area of the Emanguzi policing precinct on April 19, 2026.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police in a statement released on Wednesday, Malwane, also known as “Mlungu,” was a highly sought-after fugitive wanted in connection with vehicle crimes and multiple murders.
He and his brother, Musa Malwane, were explicitly wanted for the high-profile murders of Cross Border Crime fighter Sipho Juda Mthethwa and traditional healer James Mthembu.
Authorities have now launched an intensive manhunt for Musa Malwane, who remains at large. Police expect adding a charge of defeating the ends of justice to Musa’s extensive list of violent and cross-border crimes.
“Sifiso and his accomplice allegedly broke into a house carrying firearms and demanded vehicle keys from the owner of the house. The victim reportedly reached for his firearm and managed to fire shots towards the suspects who ran for their lives. Sifiso, who is also known as ‘Mlungu’, was shot and injured but managed to flee from the scene,” read the statement.
