ANC and IFP in KZN Agree to Initiate Discussions on Including Municipalities in Provincial Unity Government

JOHANNESBURG – The African National (ANC) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Kwazulu-Natal resolved to begin talks to include municipalities in the newly formed provincial unity government.

Last month the IFP, Democratic Alliance (DA), ANC and NFP voted in favour of joint leadership in the province.

KZN ANC representative Mafika Mndebele said: “What we’ve done so far, we have discussed the provincial government but there is an agreement, that should this thing work, there should be a need for us to then discuss these things going down to local government.”

The IFP’s Inkosi Ntandoyenkosi Shabalala echoed Mndebele’s sentiments.

“As the IFP, we will have such a government of provincial unity but of KwaZulu-Natal. That also compels us to rethink our position in local government.”
