Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 30-year-old woman neighbour in Mmametlake.

The victim’s half-naked body was discovered in a bush by women collecting firewood, who then alerted Community Policing Forum (CPF) members.

Police said the woman was found with bruises and was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect, believed to be the victim’s next-door neighbour, was arrested with the help of community members and is expected to appear in the Marapyane Periodical Court.

“Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi strongly condemned this act of violence against women and commended the community of Mmametlake for not taking the law into their own hands, instead, collaborated with the police in ensuring that the suspect, who is within the community, is arrested,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Mavela Masondo
