The Democratic Alliance has announced another slate of mayoral candidates across the Western Cape, signalling a push to consolidate its grip on municipalities it already governs ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
DA Western Cape Leader Tertuis Simmers said the party is building on earlier announcements as it prepares its campaign machinery across the province.
“Today, the DA announced further Mayoral Candidates standing for election in municipalities across the Western Cape, to keep their towns and cities working and delivering,” Simmers said.
The newly announced candidates include:
- Jessica Kamkam in Bitou
- Mario Wessels in Bergrivier
- Raymond Ross in Cape Agulhas
- Stephen Korabie in Drakenstein
- Marais Kruger in the Garden Route District
- Browen Johnson in George
- Richard van Huyssteen in Matzikama
- Clinton Lerm in Overstrand
- Harold Cleophas in Swartland
- Jeremy Fasser in Stellenbosch
- Trevor Abrahams in Witzenberg
Simmers emphasised that all the candidates have undergone what he described as a stringent vetting process to ensure they are fit to lead.
“These are candidates who have been through the most rigorous selection process to lead the DA caucus in their respective municipalities, and to serve as Mayor if voters make the right choice,” he said.
The party framed the announcement as part of a broader strategy to retain control of DA-run councils, highlighting governance continuity as a central pillar of its campaign.
“These are all municipalities which are already DA-run governments, and the DA fields carefully selected candidates to ensure continuity of excellent governance,” Simmers said.
He added that the candidates are expected to intensify campaigning efforts and uphold the party’s governance standards if elected.
“The DA now charges our Mayoral Candidates to deliver to the highest standards, and to go further to improve lives and improve delivery where they lead,” he said.
Simmers also pointed to the party’s governance record in the province, arguing it remains the only political formation capable of sustained service delivery and accountability.
“The DA’s record of success in clean audits is but one proof point that in the Western Cape the DA is the only party able to consistently drive job creation, eliminate corruption, create safer communities and provide reliable basic services,” he said.
With elections on the horizon, the DA said it would “fight tirelessly to ensure that every South African gets the services they deserve, under a DA-led government.”
