Gauteng police have uncovered a suspected drug laboratory in Sandton during an intelligence-driven operation that led to the seizure of chemicals, equipment and suspected finished drug products valued at an estimated R1.5 million.
The discovery was made by the Organised Crime Unit on Rembrandt Avenue on Sunday morning after acting on intelligence information.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, no one was found at the property.
“No one was found in the house,” said Nevhuhulwi.
She said the team acted on intelligence information which led them to the site where chemicals, equipment and suspected drug products were discovered.
“The team operationalised intelligence information which led them to a house where they found chemicals, equipment and end product suspected to be drugs,” said Nevhuhulwi.
She said police remain committed to combating drug-related crime and dismantling illegal manufacturing operations in the province.
“The police in Gauteng are committed to fight crime and will continue to crack down on drugs and illicit manufacturing,” she said.
A case of manufacturing of suspected drugs has been opened for further investigation.
