Limpopo’s Ntsako Shivonivoni wins silver at nationals | Herald

TZANEEN – Ntsako Shivonivoni, a 12-year-old learner from Nkowankowa, is showing great promise in athletics after winning a silver medal in the 200m hurdles at the 2026 Sasa National Primary Schools Track and Field Championships, held from March 19–21 at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town.

The Gr 7 learner from Dr Annecke Primary School in Letsitele crossed the finish line in 27.49s, earning a medal for Limpopo. He also competed in the 80m hurdles, finishing fourth overall.

Silver success on the national stage

Ntsako told the Herald that he had hoped for a podium finish but did not expect to do so well.

“I thought there were better runners than me.

“I just trusted God and had a great run,” he said.

Faith, family, and fast feet

Ntsako credits his success to God, his supportive mom, Langutani, and his coach at Nkowankowa Athletics Club, Conride Shikwambana.

His mom said seeing her son on the podium was an overwhelming and proud moment.

“Watching him shine on a national stage was incredible, especially since last year he could not compete in the finals due to a knee injury.

“I am grateful to the school and coach Conride for their guidance and support,” she said.

Limpopo’s pride shines bright

Dr Annecke Primary School principal, Zarius Janse van Rensburg, said the school is proud of Ntsako’s achievement, particularly noting the young athlete’s humility in giving glory to God.

Shikwambana added that seeing Ntsako succeed brings him great joy and hinted that even greater performances are expected from the young star in the future.
