Parts of the N1 highway near Modimolle in Limpopo have been closed on Wednesday morning following a fatal accident.
Emergency services and police are combing the scene after two vehicles collided.
It’s unclear how many people have died.
The crash comes as traffic volumes are expected to increase significantly on the N1 over the Easter weekend.
Meanwhile, the provincial government has called on road users to exercise heightened caution and drive responsibly.
The call comes as the province prepares to host two of the largest Christian congregations in the country for Easter.
Limpopo attracts millions of pilgrims during the Easter long weekend from the Zion Christian Church and the St Engenas Zion Christian Church.
Premier Phophi Ramuthuba has described road safety as a shared responsibility that requires vigilance, discipline, and mutual respect.
Her spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha, said, “The premier also encouraged visitors to explore Limpopo’s diverse tourism offerings, support local businesses and experience the province’s warm hospitality while observing safety precautions. The Limpopo provincial government wishes all residents and visitors a peaceful, safe and spiritually enriching Easter.”
