Western Cape govt: No need to panic, fuel supplies are secure

The Western Cape Government has assured its residents that there’s no fuel shortage in the province, despite concerns linked to the Middle East conflict.

Concerns are mounting over South Africa’s fuel security because rising global oil prices threaten steep increases at the pump.

But the provincial administration insists there is more than enough fuel in reserve to meet demand.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said the Provincial Disaster Management Centre is actively monitoring the situation alongside key partners in the fuel industry, agriculture, emergency services, and Eskom.

Winde said that they’re aware of isolated supply issues that have been reported, mainly affecting farmers in the Garden Route and West Coast.

However, the Premier has stressed that this is not due to a lack of fuel, but rather delays by certain suppliers…

“We want to put out a message that says it is unethical for suppliers to delay the delivery of fuel or to hoard or to hold back fuel supplies.” said Winde.

Winde added these cases are being addressed with the Fuel Industry Association and encouraged residents to remain calm.
