A motorist was shot on the R566 Rosslyn Road near De Wildt on Sunday night after his car hit rocks on the road.

After hitting the rocks at 19:30, the motorist and three passengers had to stop their vehicle.

An unknown number of armed men approached them and threatened them at gunpoint.

According to Tshego Kekae from Phetogo Security Services, who attended the scene, one of the passengers fled into the bushes.

“The victims were robbed of their belongings.

“A doctor driving by stopped and assisted the driver, who was shot in the abdomen,” says Kekae.

The suspects fled on foot.

Shortly before the incident, another car drove over spikes on the N4 and had to stop.

“Fortunately, Tshwane metro police were in the area and ensured the motorist’s safety while he was changing a tyre.”

In another incident on Monday, a Hartbeespoort woman escaped a possible robbery when spikes were thrown in front of her car in broad daylight on the Platinum N4 to Pretoria.

Lize Swanepoel was on her way back from Pretoria on the highway at 10:30 when two men inside a Volkswagen Polo allegedly tried to push her off the road and threw spikes in front of her car. Her tyre was destroyed.

The Polo sped away when a Sanral official came to her aid.

Metro police, security companies and police have increased patrols on the N4.
