Nordex supplying 33 wind turbines to private projects in Western Cape

Wind turbine technology provider Nordex Energy South Africa (NESA) is supplying 33 wind turbines to the Zen and Bergriver wind projects, in the Western Cape, which will have a combined capacity of 194 MW.

The projects are majority owned by ACCIONA Energía, with H1 Capital and Chariot Limited owning the 49% balance.

Licensed electricity trader Etana Energy has concluded a 20-year power purchase agreement for the electricity, which will be sold to a portfolio of commercial and industrial customers, including Growthpoint, the V&A Waterfront, Tharisa Minerals, Petra Diamonds and Autocast.

NESA is supplying Nordex Delta 4000 N163/5X wind turbines to the projects, which are located between Gouda and Saron and which are scheduled for commissioning in mid‑2027.

MD Robert Timmers says the projects will raise NESA’s total installed capacity in South Africa to 1 921 MW once constructed, with the group having already installed 525 turbines in the country to date.

“This milestone further underlines the increasing role of private renewable energy procurement in South Africa,” Timmers said.
