A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Limpopo after he was allegedly involved in a burglary and the unauthorised use of a motor vehicle at a plot in Nkuri Sifasonke Village, within the Giyani policing area.
According to the South African Police Service, the incident occurred during the early hours of Friday, 7 February 2026, when a 41-year-old woman received a call from one of her employees, alerting her that unknown individuals were attempting to steal a vehicle from her property.
Police said the complainant rushed to the scene and discovered that a bedroom window had been opened and the burglar proofing forced open, while the keys to a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 were missing.
“It is further alleged that the vehicle was driven out of the yard and subsequently collided with a house within the premises,” Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said.
The collision resulted in damage to both the wall of the house and the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the complainant’s employees was allegedly involved in the incident, after which the suspect was traced and arrested.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, on charges of burglary at a residence, using a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, and malicious damage to property.
“Police investigations are continuing,” Mashaba said.
According to police, the vehicle belonged to the SAPS Crime Intelligence unit and had been reported stolen in Soshanguve, Gauteng, on 2 May 2024.
After the vehicle was recovered, police arrested Nyathi and charged him with theft of a motor vehicle and contravention of South Africa’s Immigration Act.
The docket was assigned to Sergeant Mmalesetja Senyatsi of the Polokwane vehicle crime investigation unit for further investigation.
