The story
Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala has stepped in to offer much-needed relief to communities affected by devastating floods in Limpopo, through the work of his Siphiwe Tshabalala Foundation.
Tshabalala and his foundation team travelled to Mbaula Village in the Greater Giyani area this week, where they met with families whose lives were upended by severe flooding in mid-January.
The floods caused widespread destruction, with local reports indicating that a host of homes were damaged, leaving dozens of families displaced and forced into overcrowded temporary shelters while awaiting government assistance.
According to reports, the situation on the ground remains dire. Streets and yards are still covered in mud, debris and stagnant water, as residents attempt to salvage what little they can from the wreckage. Many displaced families have sought refuge at a local church hall, according to Health-E News.
Further highlighting the scale of the disaster, Daily Maverick reported on Thursday that 128 households were affected, with 57 homes destroyed. In total, around 445 people have been left homeless, including 101 children.
While some residents have found temporary accommodation with neighbours or are renting elsewhere, 117 people are currently sheltering at the local Pentecostal Protestant Church.
Moved by the community’s plight, Tshabalala partnered with several brands to deliver essential supplies. With support from Albany, the foundation donated 5,000 loaves of bread, while Oros contributed 15 cases of juice. The initiative also saw the distribution of 100 pairs of school shoes, 180 blankets, and various grocery items to affected families.

Through his foundation, Tshabalala continues to use his platform to make a tangible difference, offering both practical support and hope to communities rebuilding in the aftermath of disaster.
