Achieving high-level performance in maths remains a serious ongoing challenge. Nationally, only 34.1% of candidates, or just over one in three Grade 12 pupils, were enrolled for maths in 2025, while in the Northern Cape, only 18.5% of candidates, or one out of every five, studied maths.
