The Cuban government is shifting its focus from exporting services to producing and exporting more physical goods, a move supported by the Free State Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism.
In a statement, the ministry noted that Cuba is aligning its booming tourism sector with a renewed industrial push after years of economic isolation from its neighbor.
Director of Exports at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investments, Yohanely Chacon, outlined Cuba’s manufacturing strategy and emphasized the importance of strengthening local production for both domestic use and exports, while improving quality and innovation.
Free State Council member Ketso Makume, who is currently in Havana for a major investment drive, said the Free State shares Cuba’s development approach. “We believe that our tourism sector has a key role to play in supporting and growing our manufacturing industry. We are committed to exploring partnerships with countries like Cuba to strengthen our economic base. This trade fair marks the beginning of our mission to identify new trade opportunities for businesses in the province,” he said.
