TUESDAY WEATHER: A heat wave in the west and severe thunderstorms continue in the east

Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the western parts of Western Cape and the western parts of Northern Cape on Tuesday.

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over Witzenberg municipality until Wednesday.

From Wednesday it should be partly cloudy and warm to cool with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts of the country by the afternoon.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Tuesday:

A. level 4 warning severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours, flooding of susceptible roads, low lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, strong winds and excessive lightningareexpected over Highveld of Mpumalanga and northern Gauteng.

B. level 2 warning severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours, flooding of susceptible roads, low lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, strong winds and excessive lightningexpected over southern Gauteng, eastern parts of Free State,south-western parts of Limpopo and in places over the Highveld and southern escarpment of Mpumalanga.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the extreme northwestern parts of Northern Cape and western parts of Western Cape.

GAUTENG
Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

MPUMALANGA
Morning fog along escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the Lowveld and northern escarpment areas. It will be cold along the escarpment.

LIMPOPO
Morning fog along escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-west, where it will bepartly cloudy at first.

NORTH-WEST
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts. It will be cloudy in the extreme east.

THE FREE STATE
Partly cloudy, windy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the eastern and central parts. It will be cloudy in the east.

THE NORTHERN CAPE
Morning fog along the coast, otherwise fine, windy and hot to very hot. It will be partly cloudy in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly.

THE WESTERN CAPE
Fine and hot to very hot but extremely hot in places in the West Coast district and warm along the south-west and south coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly but strong along the south-west coast.

THE WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and warm, but cool in places along the coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate north-easterly.

THE EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Morning fog in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm in places over the interior. The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate north-easterly.

KWAZULU-NATAL
Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-west. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to southeasterly, becoming easterly to north-easterly from the south by late morning spreading to Richards Bay by evening.
