Gauteng is preparing for cold and wet weather tonight.
This comes as the Weather Service issues a Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms expected across many parts of the province from 2pm today until early Friday morning.
The storms are expected to bring hail, high winds and heavy rain, which could lead to flooding, property damage and service disruptions.
Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid flooded roads and stay away from open areas during lightning.
The weather service Lehlohonolo Thobela has warned communities to remain alert as rain is also forecast in other parts of the country.
“These storms are expected to cover Gauteng, the southern parts of Limpopo, the north-west, the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Free State and the south-western parts of Mpumalanga. In KwaZulu Natal, the Level 2 yellow warning will cover the western parts of the province, which would cover areas around Newcastle up to the eastern parts of Newcastle this afternoon. Cloudy conditions will continue in the eastern provinces tomorrow, with a 60% chance of showers expected to occur. will cover the north-west of Gauteng, Free State, into the northern parts of the Northern Cape,” says Thobela.
