The University of the Free State says academic activities will continue after college on Mondayir delay in the midst of student protests.

The Executive Committee of the University of the Free State, the Institutional Representative Council and the Campus Student Representative Councils of the three campuses agreed on the implementation of the phase-out of provisional registration.

Students who left the QwaQwa campus this week are expected to return on Wednesday and academic activities will resume on Thursday.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, six students were expected to appear in the Bloemfontein District Court on charges of malicious damage to property and attempted arson after they allegedly tried to petrol bomb a building on campus.

Meanwhile, the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape will resume online teaching from Monday following the recent violent unrest and destruction of property on its campuses.

Students are calling for SRC elections and a change in university management, among other things.

Management says the safety of staff and students is its top priority while ensuring the 2025 academic year is protected.

A recovery plan has been submitted to the Senate and the Extended Management Team to guide the recovery of activities.

The university is also working with student representatives to address their concerns. Further discussions are planned with Parliament’s Higher Education Portfolio Committee next week.

Blended learning is expected to start from the 27th of this month.
