The University of the Free State says staff at Bloemfontein and South Campus have returned to work, while the Qwaqwa campus remains closed. after serious damage was sustained on campus on Monday.

Students staged a violent protest to show their displeasure over the institution’s announcement of abolishing provisional registration.

The university condemned the violence and says an investigation is underway.

University spokesperson Lacea Loader says a preliminary injunction has also been issued to stop all unlawful activities on the campuses.

“An investigation into what happened on this campus is ongoing. The University’s Executive Board condemns in the strongest terms these acts of violence, as well as the destruction and damage to property. The academic staff will return to the campus in phases and will also be deployed if the further program requires it. The deans of our faculties will guide this process and are also in contact with our students and also with the staff.”
