Building local economies, development of skills and creating opportunities for communities to thrive, are central to the Phahamisang Primary School in Bloemfontein.
The Free State Department of Social Development rolls out a program that is aimed at curbing social ailments that affect communities through the ‘Molo Makhelwane’ campaign, which translates into ‘Hello Neighbor’.
The campaign was first launched in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district in Qwaqwa in November last year with the aim of enabling communities to take the lead over their lives by bringing them together to identify their challenges and come up with solutions.
The Department’s Thembile Nqabeni says: “The core of Molo Makhelwane is community development. This is the main objective of this program, so that people can take the lead over their own lives and neighborhoods. It means bringing people together by identifying and finding them in their communities and mobilizing their strength of their Makhel.”
