Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe) finally starts this week after a two -year break.
Macufe lovers say they are enthusiastic, but worry about the quality of artists, especially the main event.
The festival is intended to stimulate the economy and to offer growth opportunities to small companies in the free state.
The event was suspended after issues of tender irregularities.
Macufe lovers who are happy that the festival has returned shared their feelings.
“To be honest, I am very happy. Many things will happen, helping people who don’t get jobs. So it’s very good for tourism. You are going to benefit a lot,” says one of the people.
“Our children now take our space on the last day of jazz. You know, that is where we relax with our babies. Now, this Amapianos who will get there,” says another person.
“I feel happy, but I have no money to go,” says another person.
MEC for sports arts and culture MEC, Ntombizanele Sifuba says that free Staters just have to enjoy the festival.
“We are happy that the festival will take place in the coming days as announced. We will urge the Macufe customers to get their tickets for all events. We look forward to seeing you from the 3rd to 7 September. We know that people are enthusiastic; go outside and your tickets go,” says Sifuba.
