JOHANNESBURG – Over 550 alleged illegal miners have now been arrested at the Sheba gold mine in Mpumalanga.
They are expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court.
They were flushed out as part of Operation Vala Mgodi.
Police are refuting allegations that they were starved out.
Mineworkers’ union, NUM, says the arrests point to a larger crisis.
