Health ombud investigation finds patients ‘froze to death’ in Northern Cape hospital

Patients at the Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital in Kimberley were ‘freezing to death’ between July and August 2024, when issues with the electricity supply led to their exposure to extremely cold winter conditions. Two patients died, while another two suffered severe health complications.
