The Ministry of Cooperative Board and Traditional Affairs in the Northwest has confirmed that 25 insiders are saved from an initiation school that is active in the village of Matlhonyane.
The Department says that further research has been shown that eight other initiates fled the school during the intervention and have not yet been established.
Spokesperson for the Department, Thebeetsile Keameditse, says that while the initiation school leader was in possession of a permit, the correct procedures were not followed.
Keameditse says that they have not consulted the parents of the children and no medical impressions have been carried out.
“The PICC (Provincial Initiation Coordinating Committee) is starting to follow and inspections of schools to ensure that they comply with the action. The current matter in referral indicates that it is important that the PICC carries out inspections to ensure that registered initiation schools are implemented and must follow a police.
