Exemption health authorities on High Alert after the outbreak of measles in the Nala – LNN – Network news region

The freedom of health of the state has issued a warning with regard to an outbreak of measles in the Lejweleputswa Nala region (Bothaville) of the province.

This comes after confirming 64 cases of the viral infection in the areas of Nala, Masilonyana, Matjhabeng and Tswelopele.

Children between the ages of five and nine are most affected by the outbreak.

“Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious health complications. It is crucial that parents and guardians are vigilant and are aware of the symptoms related to measles,” says spokesperson Mondli Mvambi.

The following symptoms are associated with the viral infection:

  • Runny nose
  • Red rash
  • Tired
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Conjunctivitis (red eyes)

“We urge all parents to ensure that their children have been vaccinated against measles. The measles vaccine is safe and effective and is the best way to protect your child and the community against this disease,” he adds.

Actions that you can take:

  • Keep an eye on your child for all the symptoms mentioned above.
  • If the symptoms develop, visit your caregiver as quickly as possible.
  • Make sure your child is up -to -date with their measles vaccinations. If you have questions about the vaccination status, consult your clinic or care provider.
  • Share this information with other parents and carers in your community.
