The Free State Health Department has confirmed 64 reported cases measles In the local municipalities of the Lejweleputswa District – Nala, Masilonyana, Matjhabeng and Tswelopele.

The Mondli Mvambi of the department says that affected children are between 5 and 9 years old.

The health department has called on parents and carers to bring children to the nearest care institution if they have symptoms that include fever, runny nose, red rash and conjunctivitis.

Mvambi says measles are a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious health complications and emphasizes the importance of vigilance for symptoms.

A plea has also been made to ensure that children are vaccinated against measles.
