Police Sergeant arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Free State School student

Free State Police brought a breakthrough in the case of the 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi who was reportedly kidnapped by two men who posed as police officers on Thursday.

According to the police, a 42-year-old police sergeant was arrested and held in Bloemfontein in connection with the kidnapping.

He is expected to appear in court soon.

Free State Police Commissioner LT-Gen Baile Motswenyane said that the investigation has now entered a crucial phase.

“The involvement of a SAPs member in criminal actions will not be tolerated. Perpetrators will be held responsible – even if they are within our own ranks,” said Motswenyane.

According to a Timeslive report, the complainant, Daniel Matebatso, is reportedly arrived at Martie du Plessis Special School in Fichardt Park as usual to get Baukudi, a student 11 student at the school.

Spokesperson LT-Col Tboo Covane of the provincial police said that the two left the school building with Baukudi who controls the Suzuki Vertiga.

While driving on Vereeniging Drive in Ehrlich Park, Matebatso claimed that they heard a siren sound from behind and were persuaded by occupants in a white Toyota Hilux GD-6 double cabin.

Covane said in the Toyota Hilux, there were two unknown men, one who wore a police uniform and the other a blue training suit.

The bakkie of the suspects were reportedly equipped with blue lights on the grill and what seemed to be a police radio.

Covane said that the suspect who wore a police uniform, Matebatso told that the Suzuki Vertiga who drove them was suspected of supplying drugs.

The suspects are said to have reportedly separated Baukudi and Matebatso and Matebatso instructs his vehicle to ride in front while they followed Park Road’s police station.

“The two vehicles returned and drove in a westerly direction on Vereeniging Drive. Matebatso claimed that a truck went between the two vehicles and he no longer saw the Hilux. He said a suspect spoke fluent Sesotho and called the name “the Thipe.” Mobile phones from Baukudi and Matebatso were found under a bridge on Ferreira Road. “

Police have encouraged the public to come up with all the information that could help with the research.
