Lungisa Toyi, a well-known and controversial figure within the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF-ASA), has reportedly been shot dead in his KwaMasingatha home near Qonce, Eastern Cape.

The tragic incident occurred around 20h30 on Thursday night, according to a source close to the family.

The source mentioned that Toyi’s partner heard gunshots outside their home.

When she went to investigate a few moments later, she discovered Toyi lying in a pool of blood.

Unfortunately, she did not see the attackers, leaving the circumstances surrounding the shooting unclear.

Toyi was notorious among truckers for orchestrating major blockades on key routes, including the N10 near Cradock and the R31 at Kimberley a few years ago.

Toyi also trended on truckers social groups after he allegedly targeted truck drivers who were transporting passengers on the N10 in Eastern Cape and threatened to report them to their employers if they didn’t pay a bribe.
