The Soutpansberg Squash Club in Louis Trichardt delivered a remarkable performance at the Limpopo Squash Championships held in Polokwane over the weekend, with club members securing top honours in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

In the women’s division, which saw 16 competitors partake, Louise Lordan captured her first-ever Limpopo Championship title, showcasing exceptional skill and determination. The final match was an all-Soutpansberg affair, with Ronel Welman taking a commendable runner-up position. Chanté Fourie, competing in her first year, impressed with a strong seventh-place finish.

Erik Welman continued his impressive streak in the men’s division, which featured 37 players, securing his fifth Limpopo Championship title. His dominance reaffirmed his status as one of the leading players in the province.

In addition, Richter Myburgh made his mark at the Limpopo Junior Championships, competing in the U/13 category. Richter triumphed with an outstanding first-place finish, demonstrating his skill and determination at such a young age.

“We are immensely proud of our players’ achievements,” said club chairman Erik Welman. “Louise’s victory, Ronel’s strong showing, and Chanté’s impressive debut are a testament to the club’s dedication to developing women’s squash,” said Welman. His own continued success also demonstrated his exceptional talent and commitment. “Richter being part of our Junior Development Programme did us proud. These results highlight the club’s overall strength and depth,” said Welman.

The club’s success at the Limpopo Championships not only highlights individual achievements but also underscores the collaborative spirit within the Soutpansberg Squash Club. Training sessions, mentorship, and a shared passion for the sport have helped elevate the performance of both seasoned players and newcomers alike.
