Man arrested for stabbing step-daughter (14) to death in Mankweng | Review

LIMPOPO – The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned domestic violence and gender-based violence (GBV) following the murder of a 14-year-old girl in Ga-Thoka village, outside Mankweng, on Friday (March 14).

A 48-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his stepdaughter multiple times while she was walking to school with a fellow learner.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect approached the victim and launched a violent attack, leaving her critically injured on the road.

“The suspect attacked and stabbed her several times with a sharp object and left her helplessly on the road,” he said.

Emergency services responded, but the girl was declared dead at the scene.

She was still wearing her school uniform when police arrived.

“A search operation was activated for the suspect and he was located in Polokwane where he was arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had a domestic dispute with the deceased’s mother the previous night,” his statement read.

The suspect will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder.

Hadebe urged communities to report domestic violence before it escalates to tragic levels.
