Four bodies of free state bus crash are not identified, says Transport Minister Barbara Creecy

She said PRASA has offered extensive support to the families of the victims.

“PRASA has offered extensive support the wounded passengers and their families, and to families who have lost their loved ones. This support includes site visits, transport and accommodation, the registration of deaths and repatriation of mortal remains. It also includes trauma counseling for passengers who were directly involved in the accident and for their families. ”

Free state MEC for Health Monyatso Mahlatsi, who accompanied Creecy, said: “We had five remaining patients. Three are fired and two are in the hospital. One is in a department and they are about to go to theater. We hope that the recovery process will be fast. ”

Creecy also spoke to the weekend bus accident in Kwazulu-Natal that claimed the lives of 10 people.

The bus that churchgoers transported rolled down a dike after a tire. More than 80 passengers were injured.

Creecy emphasized the importance of road safety and the need to convene bus operators to tackle problems such as driver’s behavior, vehicle and compliance with speed limits.

“Prevention is better than cure. It is crucial that we call all our bus companies together and again repeat the message of safe driver’s behavior to protect lives. “.

She said that extreme weather conditions that are driven by climate change are worsening the transport infrastructure and emphasize the need for long -term climate resolient strategies.

“Municipalities must give priority to road maintenance to prevent chaos on our roads. The assigned funds must be used effectively to maintain the infrastructure, “said Creecy.
