Johannesburg – The inhabitants of Johannesburg have been encouraged not to carry out baptisms and to clean rituals at river flows due to the constant heavy rainfall.
The city has experienced almost a week of continuous rain, leading to strong river flows.

People have died over the years in the popular Jukskei River while they participate in religious practices.
“Due to disturbing rainfall that we have received in the last five days, most of our river flows are full,” said spokesman Robert Mulaudzi, spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS).
“Residents who normally lead the baptismal and cleaning rituals are encouraged to stay away from river flows.”
In the meantime, Mulaudzi said that Johannesburg EMS teams are on a high alert while heavy rain showers continue.
“For our part as City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, we are still on a high alert and we all monitor all seven regions of the city on emergency situations that can occur.”
