Meanwhile, the MEC for safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, has spoken about several other road accidents that occurred in the province in the past 48 hours.
These include one in which the driver of a BMW died in a collision with a bakkie on the R40 yesterday, Wednesday, February 19.

The accident involving a minibus taxi and a VW Polo kept traffic officials very busy this morning, February 20.

In another incident yesterday, a bus transporting some American tourists to Kruger National Park overturned on the R540 between Dullstroom and Lydenburg. Eighteen people were injured and some are receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Belfast.

Another bus transporting learners on R573/Moloto Road also overturned yesterday, resulting in several kids sustaining minor injuries.

In yet another accident yesterday morning, a minibus taxi transporting some children to school collided head-on with a sedan on the N4 between Emalahleni and Vosman. Eight learners were injured in this incident and one of them was in a critical condition.
“We believe the weather may have been the cause of most of these crashes. We are therefore calling on motorists to maintain prudent following distance, reduce speed and be extremely cautious when driving in misty and wet weather conditions,” Macie said.
He also appealed to motorists to be wary of flooding in some roads due to territorial rains.
