Team Mpumalanga shines at 42.2km SA Championships | Lowvelder

Mpumalanga’s team excelled at the ASA Marathon Championships, securing a bronze medal in the 40+ men’s category. Held alongside the Durban International Marathon on April 28, the 42.2km event saw six athletes representing Mpumalanga. Lovers Hlatshwayo, Graham Malinga, Nthuthuko Maseko, Msawenkosi Buthelezi, Samuel Mathabatha, and Shellboy Mavuso proudly competed. Hlatshwayo and Malinga notably participated in both the 40+ and open men’s categories. The bronze medal in the 40+ category was clinched thanks to the strong performances of Hlatshwayo, Malinga, and Maseko. In the open men’s category, the team finished fifth overall, with standout efforts from Hlatshwayo, Buthelezi, Mathabatha, and Malinga. Individual timings were impressive, with Buthelezi clocking in at 02:22:32, followed closely by Mathabatha at 02:22:34, and others showing commendable times. This achievement highlighted the dedication and skill of Mpumalanga’s athletes.
